Now, boom boxes & loud tunes in the bush DO make me go off on a tangent.

If your main concern is the environmental damage, then you definately should be buying the atv that uses the least amount of gas. The noise that is created among each line is not a whole lot different, but the amount of gas they consume can change greatly depending on engine size....

Hahahaha, Electric vehicles are cool, but not a mature technology at all.

As for the gasoline, I'm a Polaris fan. So I'm guessing the 550 EFI is more efficient than the 850, and has better emissions from EFI than the 500 carb.

you do what ever feels right to you and your convictions to help the enviroment. i would suggest going to hear one run if you hadn't already and be the judge for your self while reving it or trying it out under good throttle to see what it sounds like. either way you will be the best judge.

I read an article years ago in some hunting magazine that implied most animals can't even hear the low frequency of a 4 stroke motor- they are more intune with higher frequencies such as the snapping of twigs and the pattering of feet over the forest floor and such.

as for the gas issue- unless you're planning on riding some baha blackwater trails for days on end- a full tank of gas will be pretty much all you need on any mid - big bore atv. keep a gas can at the truck.
You'll get atleast 65-100 miles from just about every 500cc or larger atv.
I might use 8-10 gallons of gas a month- I ride just about every weekend more or less-
gas is not really an issue.

Hahaha, I used "reasonably possible", because I love ATVing, I'm also an environmentalist... just not the crazy kind.

I only mentioned gas mileage because it was mentioned by someone else.

That low frequency hearing thing is a very good point. Never would have thought of that...
