running rough

Default running rough

Hey i have a 2004 sportsman 500ho in neutral runs fine when in gear at lom rpm runs rough.If i give it more throttle it runs good if i hold throttle at a steady speed runs rough again. During the summer it runs fine all the time but will shut off sometimes if you let off the throttle.As soon as it gets a little cold out ot starts acting up. Thanks for any help i can get.

First make sure you have fresh fuel and the throttle lever has 1/8" slack only,too much and the engine can die. If still has a problem,could be jets stopped up in the carb,needle and seat,etc.Could be running fine in neutral,but under a load could be acting up. Plus 04 carb models were included on the ecm module recall list. Ecm's can cause some weird running problems and dangerous if not replaced. Check with local dealer,plus you can pull the front panel and if the ecm is a BLACK finned module,it needs to be replaced! Also there was a bulletin in 2004 about plug wires shorting out between the tank and frame (this usually showed up within a couple hundred miles or so on affected units though) OPT
