More speed out of a 2009 Sportsman 300

My 12 year old has already grown tired of the lack of power and acceleration of his 2009 Sportsman 300. I've researched around and get the idea that putting a clutch kit in it will wake it up some, but I'd like to hear from someone who has actually done it and your impressions. Was it "it got better" or "yeah, it really woke up the bike and now it's a totally different animal".
He is looking for better acceleration, and I would like the clutch to not start slipping when climbing hills. I actually flipped his bike because I was climbing a hill and it just ground to a near stop, slid off to the side, and flipped over.
We have gotten it in the 40's of flat fire roads, but it just doesn't have any guts when going down a sand wash. My buddy on his Honda Foreman (a 330 I think and he weighs 230 lbs) literally destroys my son on his sportsman 300, and it just does not make sense.
The sportsman is an awesome ATV, and I would like my son to get some more seat time on a quad with a CVT before I let him move up to a sport quad. I fear it will happen sooner than later If I can't get the sportsman to perform better.

The Sportsman 300 is a completely different machine than the other Sportsmans. The engine is basically an Aeon or E-ton(can't remember?) The clutching system is different and not sure what aftermarket items may be available say for exhaust or clutching? If no one on the forum can help you can try Aeon or E-ton or even the Chinese atv forum to see if you can find something. Also don't know if the cost is worth the effort especially since he's planning on moving up to a sport quad? Yea like opt said, I have the 08 and all I did to it was jetted the carb with a dynojet, went up to 25" swamp lites, and I will run almost 50 topped out but has tons more low end power. These machines were just starved for fuel from the factory. My wife rides the heck out of this machine and it will go places my 500 won't
I offered to get her a bigger machine and she said no. O and it is even snorkled

I think I'll just play around with opening up the air intake and jetting it up.
I'd rather just order a couple of jets and take the carb apart once, rather than open it up to find out what jet is currently in it.
Does anybody know what carb is on the 300, and even what type of jets (Mikuni, 6mm small round for example?) I know that the stock jet is a 140.
I see that it is a Mikuni BST34 carb.
I also have a Mikuni to Dynojet comparison chart if someone wants to tell me what DJ jet they are using.

Not sure if this a direction you want to go but started my daughter out on a 300sp and upgraded to a new scrambler 500 HO this year. She really likes it (so do I) and it's not too much machine for her (just turning 14 and around 100-lbs). There's a decent market for the 300's (sold mine for top $ in a matter of days). Just a thought before sinking time and $ into the 300 that won't see much for gains.
