Is there any way to cross reference part numbers
#1
Hello all!! It’s been a long time since I last posted but I need some help. Went for a ride yesterday on my 2011 800 sportsman with 580 miles on it. I got this ATV 2nd hand with 210 miles and no extended warranty and the factory ran out 1 month ago. Well I got myself in a bind and had to tackle a mud hole that ended my day with a blown rear axle. The joint that plugs into the gear case just exploded under very little tork so I’m thinking it was a defect as I have never seen or hared of this. Question??? Is there any way to cross reference part numbers to see what year units it will fit??? So I can try to get one off eBay or just bite the bullet. Pure Polaris part# 220436/ 3135571 is 212.00 and up.

Don't have a list on cross referencing numbers, but the plunging joint is $166 at Cycle parts Warehouse.
Plunging joints or cv joints can explode internally, spitting pieces out like this, if to much torque is applied to em,saw this constantly even on brand new machines at the shop. You might consider later on replacing rear drive shafts with heavier duty ones such as Gorilla or EPI if you are constantly playing in the mud. i actually did the same thing to my 08' 800 on the front side axle and destroyed it. i bit the bullet and bought a new oem. polaris wouldn't warranty it anyways as they would say driver error or a normal wear item. funny how that works. if you use polaris cross ref. it's used only inthe 2010 through 2012 models being anywhere from the 400,500,700 and 800 sportsmans. seems odd that the 400 would be the same.

I'd just pony up the dough and get the heavier aftermarket axles. Try the cv man here http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...--l6GMDw_CV1dQ
