Default 400 Scrambler is back :)

Well I got my 1996 scrambler 400 motor back from Rick Ritter yesterday.

I got lucky and the knocking noise I have been chasing was the crankshaft nut had come loose. One of the keys was shredded but Rick got her all done for me.

Spent the last 10 hours in my garage putting it all back together. Didnt want to start at first since its been apart for 4 months but I shot some ether in there and she fired off and will start right up now. Havent ran it yet but plan on going on tommorow.

I am worried about the oil pump though. I havent run it but a few minutes total, and its smoking and seems ok but I was thinking about premixing the oil for a tank to make sure. My question is if I fill the gas tank all the way how much oil should I use? Also can I use the polaris injector oil I already have?

Thanks for any replies. I feel like I am ten years old on Christmas morning again.

yes you can use your injection oil. depending on how much gas the tank holds, maybe 8 to 12 ozs. if the pump was working fine and you didn't drain it and it's still primed up it should be fine. by adding oil to the fuel it will be oil rich big time and smoke real good.

You can just mix it 50-1 ratio on the first tank and if you're worried about the oil pump, just pop the front plate and bleed it for any trapped air! Crank shaft slotted nuts have backed off on me and will knock against the stator plate and sound like the engines about to fly apart even though they are reverse threads and actually supposed to stay snug! Just as long as he used loctite on the threads, you won't have to worry about it backing off again!. Good luck OPT
