It does not matter what year you have 1996 or 2012 since the 500 Fuji motor changed very little and all share the rattly sounding Bendix drive.

Another trick is take the Bendix apart and slightly stretch the spring so it recoils back to a rest faster.

But yes when a Fuji 500 starts up it sounds like a can of marbles sometimes.

Ok. Thanks I will try that. Is The original set up bad on The stater as far as wearing them out faster or not enough to notice.

If you expand the spring make sure the outer clip is not distorted when you remove it !! I've had customers do this and reused the clip and had a couple where the clip was ejected and they not only destroyed the bendix but the got the stator also! If you do this, highly recommend you order a new clip and not use the old one!Plus if you stretch the spring too much and its hard to compress the retainer cap, spring, and clip back on,it may have to much tension to engage the flywheel teeth properly and retract back early! Same principle as the the round circlip on drive shaft ends that lock the drive shaft in the transmission or front gear case, hard to remove one with out distorting them and have had drive shafts pull out on owners that repaired their own atvs that didn't replace the circlip. Guess who they brought it to to repair any damage Just from my experience! OPT

Won't be as much noise if you blip the throttle when it starts!Maybe some day they will have an upgraded stronger bendix like the 700 and 800 that were no problems, but they also had more engine torque!Really had no problems on any of the Polaris atvs on bendix hang ups except the 500 unless they were flat worn out or rusted!! Glad to see I am not the only one with this issue. I just picked up a 2012 and thought the starter was bad...but I have been starting it like a car...will try the throttle blip tomorrow.

Default Blip

What do you mean by throttle blip, not mechanically inclined so do you mean press the gas pedal a little. I know this is an old thread but just got my parents 2010 400 ranger and it does same thing! Glad it’s normal but they lived in a cove near salt water and everything is full of rust so I thought it was damaged!
