I just bought a 2012 sportsman 500. What all do I need to get in order to put a plow on? Any suggestions as to what brand? Would it really be worth it to just get a package from a dealer?

 

when I was looking at them for my 2011 I want to say there was 3 pieces
1) quick connect for under the quad
2) frame that mounts to the quick connect
3) the blade

 

You'll also need a winch or a manual lift to raise the blade.

 

i looked for a front mount plow for mine but didnt some up with much. Pro vantage i think makes one that looks nice.

 

Indeed, you will need a mount, frame, blade, and means to raise/lower the blade. I think a winch is probably the best way because it's a useful item to have anyway but you can also buy a lever actuator.

If you call Thor at www.theatvsuperstore.com he can give you some ideas. I know a t least 3 people who have bought a plow from there and have been pleased.

 

Definitely want a winch-they come in very useful for many thins other than plowing. Try and get one with synthetic cable-light years better than steel. As far as brands go try Moose, Eagle manufacturing, etc. An ebay search will have numerous brands. Not sure on the new glacier3 polaris plows but I know there were complaints on the reliability of the mounts on the glacier2's. I have an Eagle v-plow on my RZR and love it! They are manufactured here in the USA and are very reliable. Two full Winters of plowing with mine and zero issues. Try a thread search on here for plows and see what you can come up with. I know there has been a number of discussions on them.
