Default 2004.5 500 HO Transmission skipping

I have a problem with my transmission skipping in reverse under load. I took my tranny out and you can clearly see I need a new silent chain. It is very slack and could easily be skipping. I going to also put a new chain on the back sprocket as it is on its last tension setting on the shoe tensioner.
My question is when reading all the threads about the silent chain people are saying the silent chain does not have anything to do with reverse. Is this true? And where might I look to find why it is skipping in reverse?
All gears, bearings in tranny seem fine and CV's look fine.
Any help is appreciated.

Don't see how it wouldn't affect it since the small silent chain goes from the input shaft to the reverse shaft. You might check all the slider gears and shift forks for any abnormal wear also. OPT
