I have a 98 polaris 400L sport and I am thinking about changing the reeds. I was wondering on how hard they were to replace. I was basically wondering if there was anything that i should look out for when doing this. Thanks for the help in advance.

Buck

They take about 20mins and $150 to replace. Contact Rick Ritter, and get the Delta V Force 2 reeds (You might want to get the reed spacer while you are there for an extra $35 - gives a bit more low end grunt)

Remove the airbox (two screws into the frame and a hose clip onto the carb), then remove the carb (hoseclip) you will need an 8mm socket with an extension bar to undo the 8 bolts. This will remove the reeds. If you get the Delta, they come with new gaskets. If you get the spacer, that comes with a third gasket that you will need, as well as new longer bolts that are a hex key and can are easier to get in and out.

You might also want to use a shop vac to suck out any dirt that might fall into the intake port after removing the old reeds. Rick said that the spacer can actually rob you of some mid to top end in the process of giving you bottom end increases when I bought my Delta V's. The increase throughout the powerband with just the reeds was very noticable to me. You might also take the oportunity to check the condition of your intake boots since you have them off.
