buying used advice
learn from my mistake. i was in hurry and drove 2 hrs to pick up this @#$%= scrabler i bought and looked good in the pics. i had been searching for the right deal for about 8 months and was tried of looking and i don't much time on my hands as of late. anyays i new of the "simple and cheap fix" for the broke cv U joint, which i ended up buying the whole shaft. i was also new about the bad rear brake pads so the idiot(actually thats me now) unhooked the line so they wouldn't hurt the disk. now once i put the new pads on and new washers to stop the leaking banjo fitting to find it has bad seals and piston. removed the plastic to get a better look and cleaning to discover the fan has been wired in and duck- taped the wires(couldn't see that w/ the plastic on) and now i'm hoping the damn fan works. so the morril of this rant is to don't be like me and hurry even if you don't have the time and really do a good job of looking and asking... i knew better is what pisses me off the most, not to mention i took a man at his word. Good i hate people some days.

Had one man buy a "supposed good shape" Sportsman 500 off Ebay and had it sent to the shop. It was so ragged out,I didn't even want to work on it! When the new owner rode it,he realized he screwed up. Took the the machine and we never saw it again. We all make mistakes.I still regret when I was 18 and swapped an immaculate 1966 Yamaha 250 Big Bear Scrambler even for a 1967 Honda 305 Scrambler that I knew had been abused and ended up with a piece of junk. It's been 45 years and I still can kick myself OPT

oh it runs good(nothing wrong w/ the engine, tranny or awd) but it's all these little things as i'm finding out, like today i took one of the tires in to be resealed and what do you know it has a cut in it. God i can't catch a break. but i promise it will be 100% when i'm done and give it to the wife to wreck.

another good thing to test is the stator.. they are not cheap..
Bring a volt meter, test the battery at idle and at rev..
I bought mine with a bad stator.. the guy had it on a battery tender, so everytime i came to test ride it was fine, but then my first real trip out it died half way.. thank goodness for pull start..

Yeah.........been there and done that more than once. Seems like most used quads need a lot of TLC even if they look to be in good shape. The worst ones don't seem to be from neglect (easier to deal with) but from backyard mechanics who really have no idea what they are doing and totally fubar what they worked on.
