Default Trailblazer gear indicator

I picked up a 2002 TB with half of the parts in a box. The wires are cut that go to the gear indicator and there is no plug left on the wires. I haven't gotten it together yet but I wondered if it will start without any indication on the dash. Does it need to have the neutral light on to start? Or are the dash lights just for convenience?

The control panel just gets the signal from the three position switch on the transmission. Should start as long as no wires are touching each other or other the frame, even then it still may not affect it? Should have a brown ground wire, purple(reverse) and a white/red I think? Plus just my worth on this,I would pull the black wire from the reverse limiter module under the front panel, then you would have full power in reverse without having to hold down the over ride button. Most of the limiters end up failing anyway. OPT
