Default First service - does the dealer have to do it?

Like the title says, can I do it myself? Not sure I want to pay them to do it.

They don't-but buy all popo fluids, keep the receipts, and log miles/hours. That will cover you if any warranty issues arise.

If you're talking about break in service(20-25 hrs) really the only thing major to change is the oil and filter (not necessary to clean the the oil tank screen). Even if it's the yearly or 100 hour service, unless you just want to pay for the convenience of having a dealer doing it,you can save bucks and do it yourself. Just go by the manual. We sold a lot of oil kits, agl and demand drive fluid for customers to service their own machines. Some wouldn't get a 100 hours a year on em,but would set aside a certain time each year to do a full service. These owners seemed to have the least trouble when they did that. Just my again. OPT

Thanks OPT! Do I have to use PS4? I will be using demand drive for the frint diffs, and the Polaris fluid for the trans/rear.

I am at 15 hours/320kms now.

You don't have to use PS4 Plus(2w50),but I would only use a good 0w40 oil. Mobil 1, Amsoil, etc. That's what the engine originally used until PS4 came out. OPT

Thanks again OPT. Was going to use Royal Purple 0W40.

Don't mean to hijack here but does the oil tank screen need to be cleaned every 100 hours or so. At the first 100 on my 07 it was pristine clean and whenever my oil starts to look even a little dirty, I change it regardless if it's due or not. Likewise on the other fluids as well.

Not a hijack at all. Thanks for the screen info. I was curious too. I know OPT said do it at the first 100 hours, no real need before then.

Do you aim for a 50 hour interval on the engine oil?

Yes. Every 50, sometimes sooner depending on how hard I've been riding or if I've been in alot of dusty riding conditions much like this summer with drought conditions here in Indiana. It's so bad here right now that much of the northern parts of the state here are under a strict fire ban. No open fires of any kind, or fireworks aloud right now. And for the ones that break the ban, it's a $500 fine if caught!
