Default please help. only runs with choke.

I am new to the site and need some help. I bought my son a 2005 polaris predator 90cc 2 stroke. It had been sitting a while so I cleaned the carb and it was good to go. We rode for 15 or 20 min. The next day it wouldnt run so I cleaned the carb again, the plug and filter looked good, and i checked the compression and it was 90 psi. (That is good, I think?) Now it runs with the choke on, but dies when I put choke off. (also will not idle with choke off, but will when choke is on) while it is running I sprayed carb cleaner trying to see if it is sucking air and it does'nt apperar to be. I also checked and cleaned the reed valves. When it is moving you can take choke off and ride but when you stop or rpms come down it cuts off, And when you go wide open throttle and let off and hit the throttle again it backfires. What else could it be. please help. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you've still either have a carb problem(trash stopping up the jets, needle valve sticking not allowing enough fuel in the carb bowl, etc) or a fuel supply problem(kinked fuel line, fuel valve faulty),if it takes having the choke on to run properly. 90 psi beginning to be a little low also. Shows service limit to be 115 psi on the older manual I have, but this is the same engine. OPT

ok thanks for the feedback. I did notice the little metal piece on the float was bent a little, but I didnt think that could make it act like it is sucking air and only run on choke. I will clean and check the float again in a day or two. Also, Was the compression good ? (90 ) Thanks again.

90 is on the lower side. The older manual I have shows 115 to be the service limit, but the engines are the same. OPT

Ok guys, I hate to admit it but it was still a dirty carb. I went and cleans gas tank, petcock and carb. Found that the small jet was clogged again. runs great now. Thanks for all the help. Does anyone know where I can buy a new oil warning light. The previous owner premixed the gas and broke the oil light. Thanks again

A lot of people clean "at and around" carbs and don't realize they need to be taken apart. Look here and search up your model for parts. Browse
