Chain Guard for Xplorer 400
#1
Anyone know if any aftermarket chain guards available for Polaris ATV's? Perhaps somebody out there fabricated their own? Would like to have something to protect and cover up the chain.

The chain itself will usually be fine and glide over obstacles without damage.
Most damage occurs when the sprocket comes in contact with rocks usually hidden in the fields.
The large steel disk next to the chain is your best protection for these rocks and unseen obstacles.
Some folks have changed the steel disks to aluminum disks but stubborn rocks will trash the aluminum disk and the sprocket and the chain.

I belive polaris sells a chain and sprocket skid plate for that machine. Well one that will fit anyways. I belive the swingarm skid plate for the Gen III will fit. also check out www.prm-atv.com they also have some available but listed for the scramblers.

You can get a combo swingarm/chain/sprocket guard that attatches to the swingarm and reaches pretty much from the front to rear sprockets. You can get them at Hot Seat, Dennis Kirk, and other places. They are usually listed for the Scrambler, but if your Xplorer has the concentric drive, the swingarms are the same from what I understand. I am not 100% sure on this, but maybe 80% or so.
Honestly, I have a 99 Xplorer and don't really see a need for more than the stock guard. I have a disk that runs right with the sprocket, as well as a plastic guard that the lower half of the chain loop runs through. The plastic guard will warp if it kisses a tree stump hard enough, and kind of make a rattly noise for a while, but I have yet to break it.
