Default Xplorer 300 aftermarket CDI

Hi,

I tried searching your forums for pre-existing info on this and didn't turn up any topics on it. Can anyone confirm whether or not there is an aftermarket CDI for the Xplorer 300? It appears that Polaris has discontinued production of the OEM part. I've seen some references here and there online to people using aftermarket CDI's successfully. I did find one link that claims that the Rick's 15-501 is compatible with my model, but when I search for the 15-501 on other sites they don't seem to list the Xplorer 300.
I've seen a few used OEM CDI's on ebay but I'd much rather go with something new.
Anyone have any experience with this?

Welcome! Ricks or Ebay seems to be the only place that offer a replacement for this part now,not sure if the leads would even match up on some that I've seen offered? Starting to happen more now for parts on models that were only sold a few years.(1996-1999) Same question has been asked on other forums on the Explorer 300. POLARIS XPLORER 300 4X4 2000-2002 CDI OR IC IGNITOR UNIT | eBay Doesn't list the correct years the Explorer was even made on Ebay?? OPT

Yea, that one has the correct wiring. I wasn't sure if they made the Xplorer after 99 or not. This is the only site I've found so far that lists the 96 Xplorer 300 as a match for a Rick's module...but since the Rick's site doesn't list it as a match I'm a little bit reluctant:
Ricks Motorsport Electric Hot Shot Series CDI Boxes 15-501

Maybe I'll call them and see if they can give me some piece of mind.

So I contacted the company in my link above to get confirmation of the 90's Xplorers being supported. They promptly revised the listing and sent me an email back saying they apologize for the listing error.

I've spent hours and hours researching this the last few days. Bottom line is, nobody seems to make an aftermarket CDI specifically intended for the 90's 300/Xplorer. I made the decision to purchase the Rick's 15-501 lastnight based on some expired ebay listings where it was being sold as compatible with older Xplorers. I'll send an update once I have had a chance to test it.

Hopefully others will see this thread and save themselves some grief.
