i bought them from a guy who runs his own shop. he gets 10% off the dealer price. He said it should be about $520, but thats canadian remember. the dealer wanted over $300 just for the cam.

my new cam and rockers are in, they should be installed today if everything goes okay. I got cam grease that says helps break-in new cams and mobil 1 10w40 synthetic oil, is it ok to run synthetic for the break-in period?

Synthetic oil yes,but best to use 0w40 for quicker flow rather than 10w40. OPT

You'll get a hundred different suggestions as far as cam break in(me included ,but just use common sense! Just drive it around for a couple hours at varying speeds, but no sustained wide open throttle! The same as you would a new atv as you really are breaking in new parts!. You can run it at first for a little while as you said and longer the second time IF you wish! The MOST IMPORTANT thing is to drain the oil and filter, have the sump drained and clean the oil tank fitting screen for any metal from the previous cam that could get back into the engine. OPT

Only use 0w-40 on that motor because its a dry sump. You want the oil flowing on cold starts ups as quick as you can.

0 weight flows faster then 10 weight on cold days and first starts. You really cant beat 0w-40 it only comes in synthetic and handles any temperature range.

Polaris calls for 0w-40 (only) so I never experimented with it. 0w-40 and 10w-40 cost the same so why venture off the recommend oil?

mad-atver.......It seems by the tone of your thread that you really want to do things right for the break-in of your new cam. I lean towards OPT and TLC's thinking on the proper weight of oil. Knowing what I know, I believe there should be a 0w40 synthetic oil in your motor on the first startup or the Polaris synthetic.
You can try and might be able to return the 10w40 oil for the recommended weight......if not opened. Good luck.........NoJoke
