I wish i could help you out but I have no Idea I do not own a Sportsman.
maybe jacking it up and guiding it in while you are compressing the suspension.
Like I said I have no Idea what so ever Sorry

i did the same thing you have to cut the outer boot clamp. make sure ***** are in place, slide shaft back in then put a new boot clamp on.

If you can raise the strut back up slowly and guide the shaft back in by slightly turning the hub it should line up and go back in.Hope this helps.

I just did the same thing installing me HL lift kit. cokeisit has the same answer I do. Remove the clamps carefully, (so you can take them to somewhere like NAPA to match them up with new ones) slide the boot back toward the differential, now get real greasy and line the shaft up on the cv joint, and slide it together. You might want to get the new clamps before you assemble. Some clamps can not come apart, so you might need to slide it over the shaft before you assemble. There is just enough room to crimp the clamp from behind the brake caliper. I'm still trying to get my hands clean. Good luck, its not too bad.
