>ATVAM LEGISLATIVE ALERT – URGENT MESSAGE
>
>YOUR URGENT RESPONSE IS NEEDED TO PROTECT OUR TRAILS!
>
>MRRs anti-OHV legislation has been introduced (HF 1551 & SF 1381) and it is
>a direct attack on our access to land, funding, and trail system planning. It amounts to a de-facto ban on all ATVs on state forestlands. This bill can be found at http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/perl/billnum.pl or
>http://www.senate.leg.state.mn.us/perl/billinf2.pl.
>
>The bill calls for "closed unless posted open" on all state lands, while at the same time crippling the process to designate and sign trails. In other words they are telling us to only ride on trails posted open, yet make it near impossible to designate any more trails with their call for a full
>environmental review of all trails. On top of that, they want to take away our funds to develop any more trails! This is a bad bill for ATVers and all OHVers.
>
>We know that there are problems with OHVs, and we also know that more designated trails are the answer to most of these problems. So why is MRR objecting to designated trails? Because it’s the solution to the very
>problems they are complaining about.
>
>Don’t be fooled by any of their moderate, feel good language they are using. They are as extreme as ever. MRR and groups like them want us off of public lands so they can use it for their own recreational purposes.
>
>We have a virtual OHV life or death fight on our hands. It will take a strong effort to counter the slick and deceptive way MRR is marketing this legislation. And, well need your help in St. Paul when the bill comes up for a hearing.
>
>PLEASE contact the following legislators, especially those who are your senators or representatives, and tell them how this legislation is misguided and will impact your recreation.

We need to get going on this !!! My backyard isn't big enough to ride !!!

Here is the letter i just sent off, send one right away..
---------------------------------

I am writing you to express my grave concern with HF 1551 & SF 1381. I believe that this legislation is very misguided. MRR has consistently shown that they will stop at nothing to get rid of any recreation activities that they do not approve of.

I can't understand why motorized and non-motorized can't exist together. I am an avid hiker, Mountain biker and ATV'er. We need to find a way that all tax paying residents can chose their own activity. MRR ISN'T helping to do this. They will not stop until they have all public lands to themselves.
We need to continue to build public trails to make room for everyone. Otherwise the vast amount of money that ATV'rs spend on food, gas and lodging will be spent in Wisconsin.

Thank you,
Mark Krinke

I finnaly took the time and put all the applicable legislators in my email address book. So one email takes care of them all. These MRR people are getting real irritating!
When will they realize there is room in the woods for all of us.

In addition to the state reps listed on Dazed's email I added the 2 from my area. Harry Mares and
Chuck Wiger. Here the reply from Chuck.... I'm not sure if this is good or bad...

Thanks, Mark.

Chuck Wiger, who agrees with me is a democrat. I think the sponsors are a mix of both parties.

Here is the reply I got from Sen. Jim Vickerman, sounds like he is on our side.

Thank you for your note. I always appreciate hearing the concerns of my
district. I have and will continue to support legislation that allows equal access to state
recreational lands for all Minnesotans. It is important to use and maintain these recreational areas
responsibly, and I believe that we are accomplishing that without new, more restrictive legislation.
Thank you for providing your opinion on this matter. It is important to
know how these issues affect us in rural Minnesota. If you have any more
questions, feel free to contact me.

Jim
