Default 2000xplor 400 4x4 axle nut

I need a new axle nut being that the old one was damaged in removal. The question is looking at the parts list, part #3 it says nylon nut did they change the part? Does it not need the retaining ring anymore? Thanks for any help

I see what you mean,I caught this years ago on the micro fiche ! It shows the #3 nut as the same for the chain guide along as the axle nut also! #7547031 (jam nut) is the nut you need. Found it on the 2000 Explorer 250. Has the same rear drive shaft as the 400. I got bit bit this wrong part number before! OPT

Just called place where I put order in many parts waiting on a callback to make sure correct part comes. I don't see the part number you are referring to. Is that on another breakdown pic? Also when you say jam nut, is it one that has a slot in it for a retaining ring? Cause I seen diff year diff model that has 2 jam nuts instead of the one I am talking about. I will post again when I get tech on phone and confirm that he understands what you and I understand. Thanks I just looked up part number you gave me that price is more in line $21.27 where as nylon nut $.20 cents.

Item #3 is the correct number for the 250 and 400 axle. The fiche is wrong on all sites including the Polaris Parts Breakdown for the axle nut on the 400 Explorer. I saw this years ago after I had ordered the wrong part! OPT
