Not hard to do,but a couple of the valve cover 8mm bolts are hard to reach,but If I can do it with my big hands anyone can!If you have a Scrambler 500 and NOT a Sportsman 500 it is a little easier just to unbolt and raise the rear of the tank a little to remove the 8 bolts on the valve cover.Once the valve cover's off,remove the rectangle plate on the right side of the head held on by 5 bolts. Leave the spark plug in and just slowly pull the recoil rope until you see the intake valves go down and start to come up. When the cam sprocket index pin is straight up center of the head,this TDC. Valves can then be checked. Clearance is .006 intake and exhaust. Best to have two feeler gauges for the exhaust twin rocker arm especially if you have to adjust them.
