2006 Hawkeye Outer CV joint Removal
Tore my rear outer CV boot. I have the entire axle off the ATV (accidental), and now I'm wondering how I go about removing the outer CV joint... there doesn't seem to be a snap ring, so I'm assuming I just hit it off with a hammer. In any case, here's a photo, thanks for any help.

Both ends have a spring clip on the shaft end recess slots that locks into the cv joint. Takes a little force to knock the cv joint off from this. The clip reusable if it's not damaged and stays on the shaft end,BUT I usually replaced em since I had a bin full and didn't have to worry about separation later on.To replace the cv on the shaft, align the shaft to the cv and knock it back on until the clip seats in the cv groove. Brass hammers(if you have one) leave less marks and easier on the parts. Later Polaris full size models had a small circlip that took a very small circlip pliers to open to allow the cv joint to come off. Thanks for the help! Got it swapped out. One more question though, my service manual is saying 80 ft-lbs for the hub nut. that feels like a lot, and forums posts about sportsman 500s are saying pretty low torque numbers. Perhaps those are for the front hub. In any case, I'm not sure what it should be. Any idea?
thanks again!
