08 500HO oil level?
#1
Just changed the oil in my 500HO. calls for 1.91L,drained everything. But after putting in 1.91L it is still below the low normal mark by about 1/16th.Tried ckecking after running for 30 sec. Then tried running it and let it sit for 10mins on level floor still the same read.Took it for a small run same read.Is there another way to check the level? Anyone else had this problem? Don't want to overfill or run low level. Thanks Tux.

Every machine is a little different. if you've drained the sump properly (either through the sump drain plug or let it run out of the remote tank) plus tank is completely empty, 2 quarts is generally enough to hit the full mark. You have to let it run a good 3-4 minutes on average, walk away and check it when it's cooled down just a little. The good thing about a dry sump engine with a remote oil tank versus a wet sump engine is that it's not that critical if it's a hair high or low as the full amount of oil is never in the engine at one time, most of it is in the tank. This actually helps these type engine produce a little more power by not having to slog through two quarts of oil all at once. 1/16" below the dipstick mark, come on now. If any is left in the bottle throw it in!
Plus dipstick has to be screwed all the way down to get an accurate check.

OPT: Thanks for the good info.My concern was that the level is below the low mark. All the other times i have changed oil the level shows about mid way between the two marks. And this time I put the full 2L in.But as you stated not all the oil is in the motor but would be nice to get a proper reading Thanks Tux.
