2013 sportsman 400
#1
I have a new 2013 sportsman 400 4x4 that when I rode it for 2 hrs the first time overheated and all coolant was lost from reservoir.. Talked to dealer and they sold me a bottle of coolant.. I filled it up and rode for an hr and it lost about an inch of coolant in reservoir and on that ride it overheated again.. Yes on these 2 rides there was a little mud but not a lot... Today when I took it out for an hr with no mud and clean radiator riding for about 7 miles in the woods, it overheated again.. Is this typical.. Yes its still under warranty but if this is the norm then I don't want to leave my ATV in the shop for 2 weeks.. I read on a thread that someone burped theres because of air... Thanks

As long as the fan cycles on and off, possible you just have some trapped air in the cooling system causing it to over heat. Remove the radiator cap, jack the front end up a little, crank the engine and let the fan cycle several times, adding coolant when the radiator level goes down. If it doesn't overheat after this, just top off the coolant ,replace the cap and top off the reservoir bottle. You can squeeze the hoses as the manual says if you wish to try to help speed the air purging. Just make sure the radiator is clean around the back at the fan area. This is where most of the mud/dirt accumulates.

Okay thanks... I did that and it went through about a half bottle of Polaris coolant a little at a time... Hey let me ask you this... Is it okay to have air in the reservoir hose leading from the radiator.. I got most of it out but a little keeps coming back in.. Also now my reservoir container is all the way full.. Should I syphon some out or is that okay to leave it all the way full.. Im thinking as I ride some will syphon its way into the radiator anyway.

The reservoir line will have a little air in it because the coolant bottle is vented. Operate it until it's warm,if it needs coolant it will suck it into the radiator. When it's cooled down if bottle is overfull then siphon down to full level.

Easy way to tell is just crank it up,let it idle and see if the fan cycles on and off before the hot light comes on. That way you'll know real quick if all the air is purged from the system.

Okay thanks... I'm able to go riding tomorrow for about 8 miles so I will see what happens... I bought a bottle of Polaris coolant 60/40 premix but have already gone through that.. Can I not just use a 50/50 mix and add it to the 60/40 as needed... Thanks
