Crank it up and see if it's charging 14 volts back to the battery. If not then it could be a bad ecm module. Even if it's been replaced under the required recall, the replacements have had a few problems on some machines. "IF" your machine is one that has not had this recall done (still a few floating around),any dealer can replace it free of charge! If it's been replaced once and on record,it will cost you this time. old polaris tech
thank you for responding
put my multi meter on it and it does not get the 14V . Gets about 12V running Could this be the stator bad or the ecm. Is there anyway i can test the stator? Will call Polaris tomarrow to see if its had the recall just wanted to make sure it wasn't the stator someone told me if it was overcharging it was the ecm and if it stayed at around 12V it was the stator ? I followed the stator wire goes pluged into the ecm 3 pin and another wire plugs into the cdi 6pin. Is there a test i can do too test the stator thanks again for reply

9 out of 10 times it's the ecm module. If you have a Silver Sure Power module and not a black finned Chinese ecm module, then it's been changed. I replaced multiple ecms on the same atvs,so it's not unusual if one goes out again after you've had one replaced.I thought they had the problem solved with the US made ecms, but they can still go out. It's main functions are charging the battery and kicking the fan on. If it doesn't charge then you wont have enough voltage to have the fan kick on,then they will over heat.Depending on how long this has been going on it might be a good idea to have the battery load tested at any auto store to see if it's time for a new one also. Draing a battery down just invites sulfation and shorted cells..
