Default How do you put the front sprocket on a Polaris Predator 500

For the life of me i cant figure it out. I got the sprocket, retainer plate and two bolts. Am i missing anything? I put the sprocket on and bolt the plate on, but the sprocket is very loose and wobbles about a 1/4 of an inch. Dont think it is suppose to be this way. Pleeeeeaaaassseee help. I have manual also, but no luck.

Sprockets will have a little slack, but check the spines on the output shaft for excessive wear.

The output shaft is brand new, no wear, splines are perfect. Maybe it is suppose to be loose, never had one that loose before.

It's going to have a little slack as I mentioned. You ought to see some of the older Polaris models. The sprocket would just rock back and forth on the output shaft even on brand new machines. The sprockets are designed to be of softer metal probably just to keep wear down on the shaft itself to a minimum.

Okay thanks, old Polaris tech. I was just worried about it rocking to much. TLC i do have that plate and the two bolts for it. I can see how it is held on, just wasn't sure why it was so loose. It looks like to get the bolts to line up, there is a grove or cut in the output shaft, that allows you to spin the splined retainer till the bolts line up. When the bolts line up the retainer is not lined up with the splines anymore causing it to be held in place and keeping the sprocket on. Just kinda strange for me, but if that's how it goes that's what i will do. Just wish the factory service manual was more help. Thanks

Never liked how the retainer plate had to turn to lock on the shaft splines and still bolt into the sprocket and the slack you had.Same as the old models that just had a circlip holding the sprocket in place. I'd rather like to see a bolt and washer like on my old Honda sprocket, but then on a shaft that takes a lot of abuse that an atv or dirt bike does,I guess they do this for a reason on a lot of em. They'd rather see a sprocket go before a shaft does..
