Default 01 polaris 500 - 2nd wore cam???

I have a 01 Polaris scrambler 500 - the 2nd cam shaft has wore out.

I know that the first time i was running 10w-30 and figured that's what wore the cam shaft out.

When i put the new cam in i used assembly lube and even poor'ed a little oil on the camshaft when first installed. Cleaned and bleed the system and timed it. Ran great and oil was seeming to get to the cam. and Mobil one full syn. 0w-40 oil. Cleaned the screen in the oil tank. and bleed the oil and antifreeze.
Well 4 months later and 10-20 hours later the exhaust is shot again. Any idea's cant keep buying a 200 dollar cam to get a few hours out of it. Oil is pooring out of the head just cranking it w/o the cover on, so there was oil.

Did you replace the exhaust rocker arm when you replaced the cam? Plus when the first cam was destroyed did you make sure the sump was drained? If not metal shavings could have taken out the new cam. Plus when this happens really best to flush the oil tank itself to remove any trapped shavings. Plus was this an after market Ebay cam? Cheapest oem cam I've found is still over $260.

I did not change the rocker - polished it up on a wet stone. Yes i cleaned and flush and clean the oil tank (best i could) but i also did buy a eBay camshaft - did have good reviews and a possible warranty but now i am starting to wonder - far as having shavings shouldn't it have wore out the intake at least some? the intake look perfect just like the cam i took out before. - I may have to go to my dealer and buy a cam though.

Well they are sending me a new cam shaft and exh. rocker shaft free of charge. They say they have not had any issues with there cams and have even gone to forged shafts. I am going to do a complete removal and flush of everything and make sure it is all cleaned out good.

I was a little sceptical on the Ebay cam shafts, plus couldn't find anything on the manufacturer called NICHE. Don't go to the dealer, but you can order one here cheaper, plus replace the rocker arm. I've had several do it yourself guys at the shop that replaced cams and didn't replace the rocker arm,but didn't hear back from them, but taking metal down from the rocker arm pad isn't a good idea versus replacing it. Oem cams and rocker arms still aren't cheap, but way better than having to tear it back down. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse Plus you can check other online parts houses. If shipping cost ends up being the same as dealer prices, just go to a local dealer.

Sorry! Didn't see your replay on them warranting the cam! I would order a new rocker arm though! Good luck..

Thanks - they are sending me a new rocker shaft also free of charge and i never even bought one.
Far as going to get a better one, if it happens again. I will skip the warranty process and just go get another one from where you said. But for them to send me a free one along with a new rocker shaft. I can't pass that up. To some point i would assume they have faith in the cam's if they are even considering doing this. (or they just made that much money off me the first time)
Thank you and i will keep you all posted, on what happens. Hopefully there was a fluke and it wont happen again but i am going to do a complete flush of the tank, removing it not just flushing oil and cleaning the screen.
