Ok so this may sound silly but I can't figure out how to start this thing using the electric start. I think the battery is dead so I used a booster and still nothing?

Machine starts great with pull cord but no lights. Are there fuses perhaps? Thanks in advance.

Have the red on/off slide switch in the middle position and push up. Should start. Polaris had this funky set up for a couple years.

Thank you -I figured that much out after fiddling strange location for a start button. but still no go. No lights no crank. I know,it worked when I picked it up. Shouldn't lights work when running even if batter is dead? Thinking might be a dead fuse?

Lights should work when running,BUT surges from the regulator rectifier to a dead battery that wont accept the charge has to go somewhere. The path of least resistance is the bulbs. I've had to replace my share of these over the years.I'd be careful on jumping off from an auto battery. Best just to get the proper battery for it.. Also there is a 20 amp sealed circuit breaker up from the battery usually tucked under the fender. Check that you have power on each side of it. Not unusual for these terminals to corrode and not allow power to the ignition, etc.Item #2. If bad any auto shop should have them. Old Polaris tech thanks a million. I installed a new HD battery and still nothing then I realized that since the on off switch and reverse didn't work it was either a connection from the battery, solenoid or said 20amp connection. I thought I'd take the switch assembly apart to see there was power there and clean the connections when I noticed the plug was loose. I put some dielectric on it and plugged up tight and whalla starter, reverse and lights work. Starter makes an awful hanging noise but everything is working. Thanks again.
Now I'm going to change all the fluids, filters, add some seafoam and grease it up and I'm good to go.

Until you have time to remove the recoil housing to grease/check the starter bendix(the part that's hanging up on the flywheel) just blip the throttle as soon as it starts which should kick the bendix back quicker. 425 and the 500 engines were the only two models seems like that the bendix would hang up on a constant basis.Plus if the teeth are worn, here's a cheap place for the starters and bendix.DB Electrical - Magnum

ah starter bendix that should be easy, I'm going to see if it works itself out the rest of hunting season since it's been sitting a while and starts on first pull everytime. I was going to order some filters and stuff online and looking for capacities and specifications for oil, trans, drive, plugs etc.. the manual I have says 2000 universal ATV and not specific to my 425. It mentions the Xplorer 400 Sportsman 500 and magnum 500 but not mine specifically, might not be the right one. Any leads on specs is greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Was thinking "Magnum 425",but bendix, starter system is the same on the Expedition 425.Engine basics is too, except the main difference is the 5 speed internal transmission and the 5.5 quart oil capacity which I know you won't like! Closest, cheapest manual I can find is a 2002 which isn't that much different from your 2000 model. Mainly decals.. 2002 Polaris Expedition 425 Service Manual PDF Download This was a dependable machine and the main problem they had was the reverse actuator going out but you can manually pull the actuator lever for reverse if you don't want to replace this $115 part "if/when" it goes out.Part #31. http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...2000&fveh=5531

Quick question about the Bendix- I watched a video where guy changed on on a sportsman 500 and it came out without removing the flywheel, would this be the case on the 425? Thank you

Yes you can wiggle the bendix out without removing the flywheel.
