'01 Xplorer 250 sudden loss of all electrical
#1
I was out riding today and noticed that my headlight, dashlights and AWD all stopped working, however, the engine continued to run. I shut off the engine, did some quick troubleshooting and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. The electric start did not work but I was able to pull start it.
I got it back into the garage and a few hours later I was about to start digging into it and noticed that electrical power had been restored (magically).
I do have a wiring diagram and noticed there is a 20A circuit breaker (have not traced this down yet). Is this breaker a self resetting type? If so, that may explain the power coming back on but not what tripped it to start with.
My initial troubleshooting started with the battery connections which all looked good. I then went to find the circuit breaker and could not easily locate it. Can someone enlighten me as to where to find it?
Also, I'll need to find the voltage regulator (LR39), any suggestions as to where to find that would be great.
Thx!!

The 20 amp circuit breaker resets, but if the terminals are corroded which happens often, you may loose power to the ignition switch, dash lights, etc. Usually located up under the left rear fender on the frame. Just check if you have power on each side of the red wire. If you don't have, slice the pouch open and replace the breaker. Available at most auto supply houses. Regulator is under the front panel.Check that the wiring is ok,then check that you're charging 14 to 14.5 volts back to the battery at an idle.If not replace the regulator.Item #5 is the circuit breaker,#32 is the regulator.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

OPT - Now that I know where to look, I'll track down the breaker first then I'll continue on to LR39 then finally to the ignition switch. Those circuits appear to be the only candidates for explaining how I could lose all power but still be able to pull start the machine.
Thx.
Thx.
