Default Sportsman Camshaft

Hi,
I started a previous forum asking about what was the problem with my wheeler... I think that you all have helped me figure it out but I have a question specifically about the cam shaft. Mine is a 1998 Polaris sportsman 500 the Polaris OEM part number is 3084898 replaced by 3086212, I saw where people said to make sure I replace with it with the HO one which is what Polaris started using with the 2001 Polaris... but the part number for a 2001 Polaris sportsman 500 camshaft is 3085855, I am so confused because I do not want to spend 2-3 hundred for the wrong part.

I do see where others talked about replacing the 1998 carb that is 32mm with the 2001 carb that is 40mm which I am willing to do but the person said that I would have to get new boots for it as it will be bigger than the boots I have but I can not find them on ebay or the Polaris parts catalog website... I cant find parts numbers and in the search I typed in 2001 Polaris sportsman 500 ho carb boots and nothing comes up... any advice on this?

Just get the H.O cam and keep your 36mm carb . To move to a 40mm yes you will have to change the rubber boots.
I,m not sure its worth the bother.

You'd have to order the larger intake manifold plus the carb. Just get the HO cam if you wish and keep your same carb as suggested by TLC!!!. Item #38.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

NO! Your air box and at least a 2001 air box are different along with the boot from the carb to the air box. Your model air box and tube.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
2001 air box and tube(tube size need to fit the rear of the 40 mm carb). Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
You would have to rig this tube up to fit your box, change out the whole air box on yours or do as some and run just a clamp on filter! All this trouble and extra cost in my opinion isn't worth it!
