Should not be to hard since the 500 Fuji motor has not changed since 1996.
If Polaris can take off the recoil it should not be hard to bolt one back on.
Even the flywheel retained the 4 (Now useless) obtruder's that the recoil engages onto to spin the crank.
Are you sure you want to, many expensive parts get ruined when dirty water goes down the rope hole.

Replaced the blank cover on several 500s for customers willing to pay the 200 bucks for a recoil assy at the time. Blank covers make a great catch all for bolts and nuts or one huge ash tray...Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Same thing on your 2012 model 400 and even the 2013 model 500. You can use the recoil off of a 2008 or earlier 500 to replace the blank cover as the flywheel still has the vanes for the recoil ratchet to catch. http://www.cyclepartswarehouse.com/f...012&fveh=51400
