Nope. When the lifters and push rods are initially installed, then you install the rocker arms and torque their mounting bolts to 10 foot pounds. The lifters maintain the clearance as the engine runs. Same as on autos.

thank you sir I also found out the other day I had a blown head gasket what kinda inexspensive oil could I use in it to get all the water out after I drain the oil or what can I use to get all the water out

Just try to siphon/mop of all the oily water residue you can.You can even spray electrical cleaner all around in the crank case, while the drain plug is out and used compressed air. This cleaner dries quick and doesn't leave residue behind. You can blow a couple quarts of cheap oil just to fill the crank case up,roll the rods around to get the oil in the nooks and crannies, then drain. I've even used kerosene with good results, but still filled cases up afterwards with oil then drained.

Lightly oil the head bolt threads. Torque starting from the center two bolts, then crosswise to 15 foot pounds each. Next step loosen the bolts 5 turns, then retorque to 35 foot pounds, then turn an additional 90 degrees on each head bolt (1/4 turn). All this is required for any head bolt stretch. Here's a free pdf manual that can help on this and other issues you may have. It's 2002,but the same thing.http://gh-ftp.com/ORV%20Manuals/Pola...0%20-%20SM.pdf
