I am new to all of this. The last ATV I had Was an old Honda 3 wheeled 110 with the big baloon tires. DANGEROUS VEHICLE.
I'm buying a used 2006 Polaris Sportsman 800 Browning with 4200 miles, I've been looking at various ATVs for sale here in Utah. I see a lot of 500s, but not too many 700 and 800s. I would greatly appreciate any and all input from the people here. THeres also a 700 I'm looking at with 1200 miles.

 

Just my on this,I'd try to find a clean late model Sportsman 500. 700s and 800s have their strong points,but can have some problems also,especially efi wiring. The 500 carb model is pretty bullet proof if reasonably taken care of and a heck of a lot simpler to work on.

 

Thanks for taking the time. I bought the 800 today before reading your response. It belonged to a guy in his 60s and the thing looked new...top and underneath lite duty 1800 miles. I told him he had 4200 miles in the ad and he said "oh well, What dya think". I paid $3700.

 

Condition is what really matters. Doesn't really matter on year model,plus sounds like you have a nice one.Best thing you can do is get a service manual to become familiar with the machine and for service and repair work.Plus the Browning edition was a nice machine. I must tell you that I am regretting the purchase a bit based on your input. JERK! ... kidn I just 'herd' that carbureted has hard times starting at higher altitudes and in cold and hot weather. I didn't want any of that crap. I've fallen in love with my fuel injected vehicles. In the old days I was a master at rebuilding rochester and holly carbs only because I had to be. They were always needing attention. My 92 cherokee, however has never stranded me in the 21 years I've owned it. It starts in any weather and condition.
