Default 2004.5 Sportsman 700 - Auxiliary Brake to Transmission Question

I was wondering if someone could tell me how the foot brake interphases with the transmission- when your supposed to push it down before you go in Reverse and Low.
Is there an electrical switch or mechanical thing that happens when the spring pulls the rod out of transmission by foot brake.

I have yet to get mine on the road but up on jack stands trying to determine how it functions.
The little rod only comes out about 1/4" when foor brake is pressed.

Thanks

Just a mechanical plunger that locks out the gear selector in the transmission. Glad when they finally got rid of it as the spring would have a habit of vibrating off the foot brake pedal and you'd have to reattach it. Part #62 is the plunger, #9 is the gear selector. Thank you Sir for the quick response..

Is there a way I could pull off the cover #3 or something easily to see if its working correctly, mine only comes out about 1/4". When I got this basket the guy had an allen wrench in the hole that is in the plunger, it may have gotten turned if that matters?

Thanks

Her's a pic of a nasty one I found. Had a couple customers defeat the plunger. Can't remember what they did off hand.

Remove the spring, take a piece of wire and tie plunger down to the frame, works like it should without pushing brake.

You can also unscrew the plunger assembly if you wish, match the thread pitch up at any hardware store and just install a small bolt and washer and do away with this system. Finally remembered what a couple guys did to their machines. The plunger was eliminated on the 2006 models.
