Got some of the parts the other day, still waiting on two of my head bolts tho! talk about frustrating. Partzilla doesn't seem to have their stuff in order right now.
anyways, question for you. The new oil pump just has a plastic sheet with holes drilled through instead of the metal screen and cover plate with inch hole in the center on the original pump. cost cutting and thats why its plastic now? thinking about using the old metal screen on the new pump... thoughts?

More force on scavenging oil with the metal plate because of the smaller opening, but shavings may not be evenly distributed over the metal screen area.May clump in one area as I found them before. Just my the plastic screen upgrade may be a better choice overall. It may not just be a cheaper replacement for the metal screen. Again the choice is yours as for the most part the pump and metal screen served the purpose for years and we didn't have very many pump issues except on abused/neglected engines.

Well, the old popo went together today. Did the crankcase last night and finnaly got my last two head bolts from partzilla this morning and got cranking! Lots of grease went on the new camshaft and i checked that oil was pumping up to the head and down by the cam chain, then I fired her up. Ran great and after 2.5 hours my oil level is the same and really clean
exhaust squeaks a little when I turn right....springs? Hmmm
my temp gauge fluctuates for some reason. Only thought is some stator connection the gauge it changes with rpms and if I have lights on.
Besides that, so relieved to have the ole girl back. Here's a few pics of the popo and is cousin Bumblebee. I love my kids 😋
