Default What to buy?

New to the group. I am looking to upgrade my tired 98 Scrambler. I have it down to the 2014 570 and 400 Sportsman. I am leaning towards the 400 as my riding habits have changed and going fast and jumps aren't as important. Now I use my 98 to plow snow and work in the yard mostly. There is quite a price difference between these two. Anyone have any experience on the 400? I'm 6 ft and 210. I'd like to have at least the same power as I do now. Hate to have buyers remorse. Thanks.

I have an 03 Sportsman 400 and a 99 Scrambler 400 that I race. Neither of mine are stock but from what I can remember about both of them when I first bought them the Sportsman had more torque than the Scrambler and always seemed to feel more powerful at lower speeds. The Scrambler is the faster quad of the two, but the Sportsman is better suited to doing work and is the better of the two for trail riding IMO if you're not really interested in all out speed.

The one thing that shocked me about the Sportsman is how good the suspension is compared to the Scrambler. The Sportsman rides much smoother than the Scrambler and soaks up small jumps better than the Scrambler. The downside to the Sportsman is that it is heavy, especially compared to the Scrambler and you can feel that weight every time you ride it if you're used to a Scrambler.

I've never ridden or even seen a 570 or a 2014 Sportsman 400 so I don't know how they would compare to my older one. If it were me I would keep the Scrambler even if you buy a newer model just because the older 2 strokes are fun to ride/own and they will never be made again.

The Sporstman 400 is actually a 450 cc quad. They called it the 400 to differentiate it from the Sportsman 500 that used to be part of the "value" line. I've not been on the 570 Sportsman yet but have seen what the 570 can do in the heavier RZR 570. My son and a buddy's son rented RZR 570's when we took a trip out to Utah to ride the Paiute Trail. They did very well, even at 10,000 ft. elevations. The engine would do even better in a quad that's a couple hundred lbs. less than the RZR. A big plus to me is that the 570 is fuel injected where the 400 is a carburetor. The bigger, more modern, engine, and the fuel injection make it worth the extra $800 to me.

The 400H.O and 570 are the same ATV but for the motor , the 400(455cc) is carbed while the 570 is Efi.

The 400H.O will do anything you want. Is rated at 32hp and with its low range will never run out of pulling or pushing power before breaking traction.
It has the same tow and load capacity as the 800 Sportsman. 2014 Polaris Sportsman® 570 EFI ATVs

The 400 is almost the same as the 500 was and that can go 55mph all day long or pull a stump out of the ground or bury all 4 tires trying.

Get the 400. I absolutely love mine! No shortage of power for my needs and riding style.

My wife has the 400 and I like it. My only bitch is no engine braking.

Just tap and release the throttle going downhill, loads the clutches up...poor mans EBS!! Last time I priced it, $684 for the EBS clutches and belt.

I would look at the 550 with power steering. Try one out and you don't have too work very hard when turning. For the 570, nice atv, look where the battery is located. It sits on the skid plate right beside the drive shaft, has no protection from any debris( dirt, mud, rocks, snow) ,if you have to remove the battery for any reason, it will take some effort to remove it. With the 550, gives a great ride and the battery sits under the front rack.

Our 1997 500 also has no EBS . Another trick is on a steep hill is put in in low range and it lets you ride the engine compression down as well.

Since the both the front and rear brakes all work off the one hand lever it really not bad just to brake feel down a steep hill as well.

I like the Polaris one lever works all brakes at once idea vs a two separate lever for the front and rear.

The 570 has an EPS option, and the Prostar engine is far superior to the Fuji 550. The battery is located in the same spot on the 500x2, wont be a problem at all. It is a better location compared to the 400/500,rear left wheelwell.

You will get more atv for the dollar buying either a 400 or 570. Leave the 550 at the dealers.
