A lot of different mfgs are going to flush mount drain plugs instead of exposed head drain plugs. The Sportsman 700 and the 325 and 330 engines were the first ones to use this type and used a 6mm plug. Could be because an exposed head can lead to problems if it was hit even if protected by the bash plate such as small rocks? Same on most of the differentials now also.Usually not a problem if you use a good 8mm hex socket and ratchet wrench as called for in the manual. Plus kinda makes sense on what this guy was saying in his video on a Toyota rear end.

I do agree in some applications the bolt head is vunerable to damage but the sportsman skid plate has a tiny access hole and hitting the plug would be impossable. so i will change mine and take that gamble. Thanks for your excellent input
