I started mocking up the parts and ck'd one ring last night.
The engine service data sheet has the following for the rings:
Top Ring: STd .0039-.0098 with a limit of .0196
2nd Ring: Std .0138-.0197 with a limit of .0196
Oil ring: Std .0079-.0275 with a limit of .059
The compression ring i ck'd came in at .0033 so I guess I will be filing it down a bit today.
Won't take much shaving down, maybe one swipe with a fine file.(.0006) Phoenix ring end gap is way tighter than most 4 strokes and even the Trail Boss 330 and Sportsman 500 end gap on top compression rings is .0079 -.0138.
quick question, the 2 compression rings have different markings - R and other marked w RN. I assume the markings face up but is there a specific marking in relation to top or 2nd position? didnt come w any literature and I dont see it online anywhere. Seems the ring marked RN is slightly wider.
Top compression rings on most pistons is a lighter color than the second one. If they appear the same color, just try a ring edge in the grooves. You can usually tell which ring fits where as the the grooves are different widths. Marks always face upward, plus stagger the ring ends away from each other and also away from oil ring ends. Plus here's a good reference video.

Can anyone please help me. I was riding my polaris last week and something popped sounded like a gun going off and black smoke came from the front end so I started looking around and this thing under the head light next to the stater blew up and idk what it is and can't find it any where cause of the part number is wore off of it! Dont know what this is but now my polaris wont start.
I used this thread to reach out to see if you can help me with my phoenix 200.
i have one that sat for some time and I replaced spark plug, oil, gas, inline fuel filter and cleaned the carb. I took it completely apart and it was a mess from sitting. I got it extremely clean and could see thru all the jets. I finally got it to start after all this but it would only start and run with full choke and when I applied throttle it would die. Got past that to get it to idle but without choke, but only for a few minutes before it does and doesn’t want to start again, with or without idle. After it sits for a short time I can get it to idle again no choke but as I try to adjust the idle rpm it will eventually die again. Please help if you can.
