Very Frustrated - No spark
#1
Thanks in advance for anyone that can help. I have a 2005 polaris sportsman 400 and I ran into trouble with the PCM (who hasn't!) I have replaced this and can no longer get any spark. I have proceeded to buy a new solenoid, new stator and pickup coil, spark plugs of course, a new CRM (black box not sure if CRM correct) and I cannot get spark still. The bike turns over and is attempting to start just no spark. One thing I have noticed is that when I turn the key ahead to the on position the dash will light up for around 5 seconds and then goes off? I cannot remember if this is normal or not as I used to just start bike right away. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am spending more money than this bike will ever be worth!

Check for shorts under the front panel especially around the bends in the wiring in the high beam connector area and also the main harness that wraps around the frame.Plus the wiring on the key switch itself. All of these are bad places for shorts. If the dash goes blank after you turn the key on,could either be a short or a circuit breaker inside the ecm module is tripping even though you may have already replaced it under warranty or on your own.I've had to replace multiple American made Sure Power ecms on the same machines. If you can pull start the machine, but can't electric start it,the trigger coil may need adjusting in a tad. Guess you mean the cdi module, black box,or brain box as it's often referred to as.

Sounds like the Electronic Control Modules (ECM) and your ATV is on the recall list. ATV: Polaris Ind. expands recall of ATVs.

Still a lot of machines running around with the Chinese modules even though bulletins were sent out. Had several second and third owners that had no idea about the recall that I replaced these on. Saved yourself some money as safety recalls have no time limit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-2006-Polaris-Sportsman-and-Scrambler-400-450-500-OEM-Surepower-ECM-2005-PDM-/171505373022?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27ee844f5e&vxp=mtr
