Sportsman700 Confirmation

I have seen a Prarie 650 v-twin. They aren't that big, about the size of an AC 500. The traxter and Rubicon are bigger, I saw one at an ATV show today.
You can't even tell the Prarie has a twin engine because one cylinder runs way back under the seat.
I can see Polaris 700 beating the Kawi v-twin easily.

What you all have to remember is that the Kawi 650 is a V-TWIN and will most likely weight about 100 lbs. less than the sportsman so unless the sportsman 700 is lighter and also a v-twin, the kawi will chew it up and spit it out in speed, power, etc.
-If you ask me, i think that ANY ATV over 600cc's is just strait ridiculous, all they are doing is trying to compete with everyone else...i mean who needs a 700cc atv or a 650 v-twin, I think the sportsman 500 and the Grizzly have all the power anyone needs.

Why does everyone think that a v-twin will dominate over an inline motor.. It doesn't matter where the other cylinder is.. There's no replacement for displacement!!!
And contrary to popular opinion, us 500ho owners do need more power.. I have to put mine in low, quite a bit. There just isn't any sense in that. We need a bigger motor... I want something Tim, the tool man, Taylor would be proud to ride..

I just can't imagine why you would need more power than the HO Sportsman has. I've never been outdone at anything by any utility I've ridden with. Sure you might have more speed with a 650 or a 700 cc power plant, but when could you use it ? I've never been able to get into mine at full throttle for more than a few seconds at a time before having to back off.

After repeated attempts to get more power out of my H.O. (cam, carb, pipe, clutch) I gave up,
sent all the useless stuff back and got a DS-650.
I still have my H.O. which is a great machine, with the best suspension out there. But after the thrill of real horsepower and superb handling, I will never go back to lawnmower engined ATVs.
I still want the BEST of both worlds. A Sportsman tranny with IRS on a Raptor would be an awesome ride. My DS has a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket, but first gear is still too tall for rock hopping and stump jumping. A Sportsman chaincase would supply low range, reverse, I.R.S.inboard disc brake, even a drive for the front axle. And I bet it could weigh under 500 lbs.
Anybody got a Sportsman rear end for sale?
It wouldn't fit the DS, cause it is right hand drive, but a Raptor is left hand drive, and a chain could replace the auto clutch. Imagine 10 speeds forward, 5 reverse. The auto tranny is convenient, but gives up a lot of power and throttle response. I am getting used to shifting again, and wouldn't mind giving up auto for acceleration.
I don't think they should make ATV's with LESS than 650cc. We're getting a Raptor for my 12 year old, I just rode one last week, it's a nice little quad....
Oh yeah, I've been having problems with Mr. Moderator too, he'll probably delete this post just because I mentioned him.

I was doing a little reading todayin All-Terrain Vehicle,, they were talking about the new 4-stroke...They were hinting that the engine may have been designed for both the sled and ATV applications. If it's the one they use, it's 780 cc's, inline twin with fuel injection.
PS,,,put a sportsman rear end on a DS650 to get the best of both worlds?????
Apparently neither of THOSE worlds have ever seen a 500 Scrambler!?
