Default Synthetic rope for pull start AND winch?

I need to replace my recoil starter rope, and I was wondering if I could use the same stuff for a short lead for the plow, to save the steel cable, which I've already had to shorten.

It's 1/4" Nylon diameter diamond braided (no solid core) Weight rating 120lbs. Hope it's the right stuff, i'm not sure.

Now if that rope will be strong enough for the constant up/down action of plow, whats the best way to attach to the cable on the drum? I assume rope needs to have a wrap or two around, it'd have to be something real low profile to get under guards over the drum

Also, if that rope won't work for plow, I've gotta tie-down strap I'm be willing to sacrifice.

I'd appreciate any advice!

I don't think a rope of that low of a rating would last long but you never know until you try it.

Ya mean for the plow right?

How 'bout the recoil starter? I don't really wanna have to pull it apart again.

I think I may just focus on the tiedown strap.. Cut the steel cable, and roll about 10' of strap around there.. Thinkin if i keep it tight enough while winding it around, it should just hold by itself, for the 2' or so of line I need going up and down.

Yeah, I meant for the plow. I've heard of someone else on this forum using a tie down strap on their winch instead of the cable, so it is possible, but I don't know the details.

Guys I'm having trouble finding the recommended size rope for recoil starter. Could anyone help me out? If this rope won't last long, I'd rather not put it on an have to take it all apart again..

Thanks guys, I really gotta get my machine back together an start cuttin some wood!

Believe it's 5/16" but could be wrong. You can get this size nylon rope at most good hardware stores.Just match it up. Problem is on Polaris oem parts is that the rope is made into the handles, but you can get the old pull start handles that have the rubber insert, but never saw one that fit that well over the housing nipple. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Polaris-New-OEM-ATV-Recoil-Starter-Pull-Rope-Handle-Ranger-Sportsman-Scrambler-/190667507970?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c64ab4902&vxp=mtr
