Default '03 500 H.O. does it have decompression valve?

Does my 2003 Sportsman 500 have a decompression valve for pull starting?

Is there a way to check it?

Sometimes on the compression stroke of the pull it's so tough it basically locks up.

Only way to firmly check the cam decompression device is to pull the cam cover and left side cam cover plate.Pull the recoil and stop when the hole in the cam passes the exhaust rocker arm.Manually flip the detent lever and check that the small ball in the hole is visible. Have had some worn to where the ball was missing or can be a broken spring for the cam detent lever. Item #17 is the spring, and you can see the hole and small ball on bottom of the exhaust lobe.Dirt Cheap Yamaha & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse
