01 scrambler 90 spark issues?
#1
First thanks for having
Me. I have a 2001 scrambler 90 I wasn't gettin spark,so I cleaned the stator and cover, which were very dirty. I then got very good spark, had it running for about 5 minutes, turned it off,and few minutes later tried to start it and it wouldn't start. Checked for spark and there wasn't any.once in a while I would get a very tiny spark but not offen. Any clues to what it could be? I'm tryin to fix so I can sell it it,my kid is grown and it just is sitting around..Thanks for any help in advance!

Make sure you don't have too much slack on the throttle. Etc switch can cut spark if contacts touch.Pull the stator wires and check resistance. Black to W/R 450 ohms,Black to Blk/Red 800 ohms,Black to Y/Red 0.5 ohms,Black to White 0.6 ohms, black wire to ground should not short out. Coil tab to ground 0.2-0.3 ohms, coil tab to plug 8k-9.3k ohms. If these are with in 20% +/- pull the black kill wire from the cdi and see if you have spark. If you do,then check out the ignition switch and wiring along with the left control switch and wiring. If these check out then possibly cdi needs to be replaced, but seems I had more problems on shorted out stators than anything else because of the open fan cover allowing dirt and water. Can find them for your model on ebay along with Ricks or Ricky stators if needed.
