Extended Warrenties 1,3 and 5 years.

I was talking with my dealer the other day about getting a Magnum 500. I had had my fair share of problems with my Xplorer 300 and I was wanting a Mag anyway so I am selling my 300 for a Mag. Anyway, I was talking with him about extended warrenties and I was really interested in them since I could have used one on my last machine! He said they had their Sept. dealers meeting and that an additional 6 months on top of the regular 6 months was $400. Then a three year was $1,200, and they even had a five year for $2,000. I thought that was outragous!! The five year is 1/3 the price of a brand new Magnum 500. I think someone must be making a ton of $$ on these deals. I am going without and I think it is a good idea. A lot of stuff will have to break to make any of those worth it. And from what I hear from Kagey and others, the Mag's are very reliable. I just wanted to know what some of you other guys have heard or been told. Thanks!

My dealer told me that these warrenties were through Polaris and not just something they did. I saw the sheet that Polaris faxed them about it and it was what he said it was. I didn't mention the last time that these guys were my cousins, so I don't think they are trying to screw me by any means. I was just wondering if your 4 years for $550 was a warrenty through the dealer himself and not through Polaris. I have heard of some of these deals and they sound good but I don't think my dealer wants to do that. Guess I'm outta luck.

Mudman,
I'd call that dealership again... He MUST have mis-quoted you..
I talked to a couple of buddies at Marshall All Seasons about the exact same thing... Extended warranty on a new Magnum 500.. it was around $500 for 4 years...(or maybe it was $600... ) I was more interested in the effects of aftermarket modifications on the warranty..
After the horrible experiences I had with my 1998 Yamaha Big Bear, I will NEVER purchase another machine from ANY manufacturer without the longest extended warranty. (And NO Yamahas.. PERIOD!!!!)
If you can't spare the extra change on the extended warranty... wait on the purchase until you can.. If it hadn't been for the extended warranty on my Yamaha, I would have spent an extra $3100 so far in repairs.. Sure am glad Yamaha ate those!!!

Mudman; That has to be wrong or either they really plan on making a lot of profit off of the warranties. The extended warranties at my dealer cost around $550.00 for 5 years. I don,t use them because I do my own work. I have one nieghbor who bought the warranty on a 400 explorer in 1996 and has not used it yet , says he,s gonna run the engine out of oil the last month of the warranty and gat his moneys worth out of it. I wouldn,t worry to much on the Magnum , talked to my dealer last week at a Ball game and he said that they had sold over 60 Magnums this year and only a few had been in for warranty service and none of them had any real problems.
