1995 Polaris 2 stroke not using oil
#1
Have a 1995 Polaris Xplorer which is new to me. It doesn't seem to use much 2 stroke oil. Probably gone through 10 full tanks of gas and only added about a pint of oil to the front reservoir as it has barely gone down. Is this normal oil consumption? Could there be a plugged oil line? Engine seems to run fine.

Like TLC said, if it wasn't using oil you would know it.
I had a Scrambler 400 with a piece of dirt in the oil line. Polaris couldn't even figure out the problem when it was new with the previous owner.
When it blocked the line in the banjo bolt, I knew it. Time for a rebuild.

Some people get that much ratio of oil to gas that do a lot of slow driving. As both TLC and Budman mentioned,it would have seized up by now if it wasn't oiling. It's a variable pump that barely dribbles at an idle, increases flow as you give it throttle.Works off a split cable that goes to the pump and carb.Pump is adjusted by a mark on the pump wheel and the pump casting with no throttle.
Not a bad idea to pull the cover plate every now and then to make sure water hasn't corroded anything. This the main reason for pumps to fail on the 400s if they get corroded and freeze up. Here's one that you can barely see the casting mark.Set a tad on the rich side, but no big deal.
