Magnum 325 to big for 13 year old?
#1
Finally deciding to get my 13 year old daughter an atv. She has driven my 600twin but now I am looking for a good used machine to have as her own. She is 13, 5'4" and strong for her age. I have a line on a clean 2001 magnum 325. 4x4, shaft drive, auto. I think it would be great But I am looking for advice if it too much machine.
Thanks for any advice.also, OPT any known issues I should look for.

One more thing. I did check the regulations for my state MN and the regs only discuss being able to properly reach handlebar and brake as wells as proper position while seated. At her height she should be OK??. Machine is going to be a surprise, so I don't have the option to have her see it first and check the fit....

Good machines,no chains to mess with. Main thing is to grease the prop shaft coupler that goes through the box frame rear swing arm. Most people over look this and the coupler splines can strip out over time.A lot of work to replace one if you don't. They can and have blown off oil lines. If not noticed quick enough engine damage can happen.

The 300cc Hawkeye and later called Sportsman 300 would seem to be an ideal fit if you could find one of those. Its a bit smaller and lighter than the Magnum, would probably be easier for her to handle and she'd probably like it better. Something else to consider if you decide to not buy the Magnum.
. Its roughly about the same size as a Honda Recon. Even though its newer than the Magnum you're looking at(Polaris built these from 2006-2010 I believe) the cost of these machines new(about $4000-$4500) was less than the Magnum, so finding a good used one in the $2000 range should be possible. I actually considered buying one for myself but at 5'11" and 205 lbs, its a bit cramped. Anyone 5'7" and under would probably feel quite comfortable on one of these.

One thing you have remember the 325 Magnum is a Full size chassis. Its the same chassis as a 500 Magnum put with smaller 24" tires and no headlight pod. 2001 Polaris Magnum 500 ATVs
Intern the 500 Magnum is the same size physically as a 800 Sportsman.
ATVs come in 3 chassis sizes Small, Mid and Full.
Example a 450 Grizzly or 420 Rancher is a Midsize chassis while a 450 Sportsman and
450kq are full sized chassis even thought the have almost the same size motor.
Don,t let displacement fool you. A 335 Sportsman was the same size as a 700 Sporstman and a 450 kq was the same ATV chassis as the 750kq.

Oh well. Of course the dealer told me it was a midsize but no big deal. They have gone completely thru the machine and put a new battery, new starter, and changed the fluids. The machine looks in great shape...I'm picking it up later today. I hope my daughter is as excited as I am. I think $2300 is a fair price.

Little more than kbb,but since they added the new starter, new battery and fluids change, jumps the value up right at dealer pricing. I'm sure your daughter will love it as I know a lot of the 325/330 machines we sold ended up in 13/14 year old hands. You might even get a big hug..
