2001 trailblazer and explore 250 Air Box has a restrictor and when I took it out I gained about 2 to 3 mph and better take off...

On my 2001 Trailblazer and 250 Explore I notice that on the air box lid that there was a piece of plastic that cut down the air flow. By removing the 4 screws the snorkel came off and then just pull out the restrictor. After doing this I notice that my explore 250 that was slower than my brothers Trailboss now will pull ahead of it.
(not real fast but still it will pull away.) I gained about 2 to 3 mph top end and a noticable excelaratin difference. I check the plug and she does not seem to be running to lean so I guess it works. It helped the trailblazer also be cause my son's 2001 honda 250ex would pull away from it but now it is a dead heat.

smblacknight,
All you have to do is to cut down the tube that goes through the filter to about 1". Removing the snorkle is the way to go but the paper filters have got to go. Get yourself a Uni-Filter if you plan on doing any water riding, or a K&N if you don't.
Beg, borrow or steal an old 34 mm Mikuni carb from someone who has done a carb transplant on their 400. Now get a pipe and experience a whole world of new performance gains. Check out the mods I've done to my girlfriends Trailblazer on page 3 of my website. Just click the link below.

SM, I just cut out the back side of the inner part on my Xplorer 400. It looks like that the inner piece is suppose to deflect water away from the filter if any is ingested.
The 2001's Xplorer 250's are jetted two sizes smaller than the 2000 models. The 400's are only one size smaller, so that tells me that the new ones are more restictive.
And by the way, I haven't been able to find a K&N fiter or any other aftermarket fiter for the '01 models.
Mike Chero, The 2001's have a completely different air box and filters than older models. They look just like the one that was in my Sportsman, but shorter.
