Thanks for that Tip. I'm not worried about the chain and spoket. I've had sport bikes so am familiar with that. Its a 14 year old machine. I'm sure there's going to be maintenance needed and I'm ok w that. I just don't wanna buy a dud or put more money in it than it's worth.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll be sure to keep ya informed.

Welp, brought her home. Upon further inspection I believe the chain is too tight and the sound is possibly some wore off front teeth on sprocket. Will find out more tomorrow. So far so good

If that's the case you got a pretty good deal and a lot less to repair..

If you planning on working the ATV and don't care about it's 55 plus mph top end you could go to a larger rear sprocket for less speed but more bottom end torque.

According to the parts list stock is a 12 tooth front,36 rear. Sounds like someones already changed the front to get more speed. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse Several different sprocket/chain combos on ebay with mostly 13 and 36,a couple with 12/36. You could check Sunstar and JT sprockets as they supply most of the after market sprockets. Same size for the Scrambler 4x4 on front and rear, but JT does offer other sizes. If you want more low end you could drop back down to a 12 and 38 for the rear,or 13/38,plus you can go all the way up to a ridiculous 43 rear.Could pull a stump, but would have very little top end..JT Sprockets: Catalogue

Well replaced front sprocket and it's still kind of slipping I would call it. Not as much but when you really give it throttle it does it. I'm really hoping it's not the splines in the shaft that connects to the front sprocket. Could it be the belt? Anyone have any other suggestions?

Anyone have a pdf manual for this machine? Or could give me the torque specs on the rear 4 bolts I had to loosen to tighten the chain?

Rear eccentric pinch bolts are 60 ft pounds.Rear caliper mounting bracket bolts 12 foot pounds. Free manuals are hard to find, but here's a 2002 Scrambler 500 manual that's basically the same for 5 bucks.2002 Polaris Scrambler 500 Service Manual PDF Download Or a 2001 for $9.50.https://www.payloadz.com/cart/Default.aspx
