Default 1991 polaris trail boss 250cc

Hey everyone im new to this forum and to atvs but i need some help. So a couple days ago i picked up a 1991 polaris trailboss 250 but 1. it needs a new oil pump. Any tricks on how to replace that? 2. It doesnt idle very good, like if you dont give it gas for about 15 seconds it dies, what could that be?

On any used 2 stroke I'd do a compression check to see where you stand engine wise. Plenty of used oil pumps on ebay.Normally they're bullet proof and used ones are fine if you need one. 89 Polaris Trail Boss Trailboss 250 ATV Oil Pump Oiler | eBay If compression is good,I'd check into the carb and also wouldn't over look crank seals. Hardest part is to get to them, but if worn/leaking they can be a source of the idle problem as well as as carb jets and needle and seat.
