Default Choke to EFI?

Hey guys I have a 2009 Polaris Sportsman 500 h.o. and it doesn't have Efi. It can be a real pain to start sometimes and I was wondering if it would be possible to change the choke to and efi system. Also I was wondering if it would be possible to put a power steering kit on it also.

Would be very very costly to change it to EFI.....and not sure it can be done ( but I imagine it can ). If it's really difficult to start cold, then you have an issue with the carb/choke, or possibly tight valves/poor spark plug.....etc. A very well tuned engine/fuel system ( carb ) will start fine when using the choke.

P/s steering kits are available. Changing to an efi system would be prohibitive because of cost. Complete harness would be needed,ALL the sensors, ecu, throttle body, injectors, stator, etc. Would cost more than what the machine is worth. May just need a carb kit, choke may be sticking, plus don't overlook the condition of the battery on hard starting on these later models that have to have a good battery to run.Polaris Sportsman 400 450 500 570 600 700 800 6x6 EZ Power Steering Kit EPS | eBay

also I was looking to add a snorkel to it but I didn't know if it would be necessary. I do quite a bit of mudding but I don't go any deeper than up to the racks for brief times. 1-2 minutes at a time. Would it be good to add one?

For what the brand new Sportsman 450HO is selling for(which has the same 567cc efi single that the Sportsman 570 has), you could probably trade in your 500 for one and the difference would be only about 2 grand as the new 450HO is selling for about 5 grand new. For what it would cost to convert yours to efi, it would be better to trade it in for a brand new machine. But as the others have said, a clean carb and a new battery will make yours much easier to start in the cold. Might be able to spend a couple hundred bucks and have it starting much better.

These Fuji single jugs are an excellent cold starter. Crack the key while sliding the choke and it will fire right up. I have started mine on many a -40 day with no problems.

A tune up and maybe carb cleaning or rebuild is all you need. Or trade for a 450HO.

Way too costly to convert-would be better off selling and buying an efi model with power steering. I personally feel power steering isn't worth the $- giving some throttle while turning makes it easier (I used to have an 800 HO with 8" lift and 32's without it and never had any issues turning).

If you do snorkel it (not really needed if you don't go past the racks but still not a bad idea) buy a quality kit and not some cheap knock-off (get what you pay for). Also, either extend your front/rear diff and tranny vent lines to the headlight pod or buy the one-way valves from Polaris (less than $6 each). Will keep mud/water from getting in your diffs/tranny and causing premature wear/damage.

Ditto on the extended vent lines into the pod area to keep water out of diffs, etc. Never was too crazy on the one way vents as they caused so many problems especially on people smelling gas all the time from the tank. All the vents I bundled and zip tied the lines together up out of the way.
