Default Polaris 90 brakes suck! Whats the next size up kids quad?

Anyone else have issues with the brakes on their kid's quad?
I've replaced all the shoes but my girls still cann't get enough braking to control themselves on a downhill descent. I have to drive in front of them and let them bump into the back of me to keep them from flying down the hill.

The issues I see are, cable operated drum brakes with oversized brake handle leverss. If I adjust the rear brake so it just locks up my girls(8 and 12) cann't pull the handle enough to set the brake. They just don't have the strength.

We have a Gio110 that has awesome hydraulic brakes with small handles that the kids had no issues with when they were small.

Do the later year models have better brakes? Hydraulic?

Whats the next size up quad? My 12yr old is already too big for the 90 but way too small for my 500.

All drum brakes suck no matter which brand. They're hydraulic kits out there, but cost is prohibitive in a lot of cases, but may be cheaper than a new atv. Maximum RPM - Performance parts for Mini ATVs

Yikes! $800 and then new rims as well.
Thanks for the info. Do you know if the newer 90s have hydraulic brakes and if so what year they switched up? As you said a newer unit might be a better option.

Even the 2016 Outlaw 90 and 110 still have drum brakes. You have to jump up to the Phoneix 200 to get disc brakes.

Like most brands all the small cc ATVs are subbed out to a Asian company .

An example, the smallest ATV Yamaha actually builds with it's own parts was the 350 Grizzly and Raptor.
The 300,125 Grizzly and 250 Raptors do not even have a Yamaha motors. They are just rebadged Asian ATVs. In Yamaha case Kymco builds the small ATVs for them.

I think all manufactures do this now.

Just something to keep in mind.

I think the smallest ATVs made buy a name band manafacter from the ground up is the 250 Suzuki Ozark and 250 Honda Recon.

What gets me is how the mfgs. keep making bigger and bigger ATVs and the choice of a smaller machine with 4 whl dr also keeps getting bigger. My Grandson is about ready to move up but the smallest 4x4 I'm finding is like a 400. OPT, can you shed any light for me on the differences between a Sportsman ETX and Sportsman 450 HO ?
Thanks

The 450 is one reason why I guess the Etx isn't in the 2016 lineup. 2016 Polaris Sportsman® 450 H.O. Sage Green ATVs
